A .com comain can only be transferred with an authorization code. You have to contact your previous registrar and the will send you an authorization code for your domain to the registered email address, which you will have to send the the hosting company.
A .com domain can take anything from 24 hours up to 6 days to transfer. During this period the domain won´t be down, it will still point to the previous hosting company only once the domain has finished transferring to us then we will change the DNS records to our server. So if the domain is down it will be because the previous hosting company has suspended or terminated the hosting on their side!
